A leading company in the steel industry is seeking a Sales Manager in Johannesburg. PRIMARY FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION :
Providing leadership, direction, and guidance to sales representatives and the client services team to meet targets and goals, as well as developing and growing these teams. Fostering a positive team environment through open communication and collaboration. Implementing training programs to enhance skills in product knowledge, sales techniques, and customer engagement.
Establishing and managing recognition programs and incentive payouts to celebrate achievements, reinforcing a culture of excellence. Interacting with exports, operational teams, and supply chain to ensure alignment with group strategy. Conducting weekly/fortnightly group and one-on-one meetings with teams and individuals. Supporting sales representatives by accompanying them to key strategic customers. Serving as the main contact for clients, addressing inquiries and concerns professionally. Developing and executing sales strategies aligned with company goals. Maintaining relationships with key customers and identifying upselling or cross-selling opportunities. Analyzing sales data to identify trends and drive accountability for revenue growth. Overseeing the development of a CRM system to capture customer interactions and sales data. Providing training on SANA for online customer engagement and technology use.
Utilizing data analytics and dashboards for performance assessment and market trend analysis. Continuously assessing market conditions and competitive landscape to identify risks and develop mitigation strategies. Ensuring sales practices adhere to policies and regulations. Developing contingency plans for market disruptions. Managing performance of underperforming teams. Managing customer risk with the Credit Manager, including increasing insurable limits and monitoring bad payers. Managing sales representative aged stock. Researching new markets or customer segments to diversify the customer base.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS :
Percentage increase in sales GP & Tons over a period, indicating overall sales performance. Customer retention rate, reflecting satisfaction and loyalty. Percentage of sales reps meeting/exceeding targets. Average GP per sale, testing upselling/cross-selling effectiveness. Lead conversion rate. Client feedback via Net Promoter Score (NPS). Success rate in penetrating new markets or segments, indicating growth efforts.
