Job description

Overview & Key Responsibilities

The Sales Engineer will be responsible for driving sales growth in the merchant gases business unit by developing profitable new business opportunities across the full range of merchant gases products and applications in the KZN Region. This role involves achieving set targets, strategic goals, and KPIs.

Additionally, the Sales Engineer will maintain and service the company's current regional customer base. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Growing company sales through prospecting for new clients aligned with sales targets;
  2. Managing existing accounts to ensure customer satisfaction;
  3. Enhancing Air Products' market presence via marketing initiatives;
  4. Ensuring compliance with company SHERQ procedures and relevant legislation at customer sites, actively participating in safety program management;
  5. Carrying out sales administrative duties and other ad hoc tasks;
  6. Fostering personal and business development within the sales environment.
Essential Requirements
  • Grade 12 with Maths, Accounting, Science, English, and Afrikaans;
  • Recognized Certificate/Diploma/Degree in Sales & Marketing;
  • Minimum of 5 years sales experience in the gas, chemical, technical, or related industry;
  • Valid unendorsed Code 8 driver’s license;
  • Proficiency in MS Office;
  • Ability to produce written reports and demonstrate strong communication skills;
  • Excellent people skills, negotiation skills, and customer service orientation;
  • Willingness to travel and stay overnight as required;
  • Knowledge of welding, specialty gases, fabrication, bulk processes, and related applications for gas solutions.
