Sales Director (Processed Meats Industry)

Our client, a proudly South African meat processing business with a solid reputation for consistency, is seeking a seasoned Sales Director to join their Management Team. They specialise in creating high-quality ready-to-eat meat products catering to diverse consumer tastes and preferences. Established in 1960, they bring decades of expertise in retail and manufacturing. This family-run business offers products including Viennas, Frankfurters, Russian Sausages, Bangers, deli loaves, polonies, sandwich hams, and sliced products.

Your previous retailer/buyer sales and brand management experience, proven business development skills, and team management expertise qualify you to apply.

If you seek an opportunity to join the EXCO and elevate your career by taking ownership of this portfolio, then this role is for you. You will be responsible for business development, managing and growing the existing sales team (6 sales professionals and 1 marketing professional), and establishing formal sales strategies, structures, and processes.

The role is based in Springfield, Durban, reporting to the CEO. With 35% of business in KZN, the goal is to expand sales both within and outside KZN, targeting the untapped tier 2 (informal) retail sector.

Main Purpose of the Role:
  1. Increase business development efforts to drive sales, enabling the factory to operate at full capacity.
  2. Enhance sales force performance and build a strong sales presence.
  3. Establish foundational sales structures and formalize strategies and processes to support current and future growth, aiming for significant national expansion.
  4. Oversee brand development and marketing initiatives.
Requirements:
  • Proven success in business development and brand management, ideally within the meat or processed meats industry.
  • Existing relationships with retailers to leverage.
  • Strong team management skills—ability to counsel, guide, mentor, discipline, motivate, and ensure drivers are in place.
  • High energy, fast-paced, hungry for success, and eager to take the business to the next level profitably.
  • Persuasive, credible, with exceptional negotiation skills.
  • Ability to identify new business ideas and market gaps and advocate for them internally.
