Job summary

Freerecruit is seeking a SAIPA/CIMA Junior Accountant to join its in-house finance team in the Tygerberg/Parow area, Cape Town. The role offers exposure to asset finance, banking, loan transactions and VAT, with a focus on learning the mechanics of a real commerce business.

You will work beyond data entry, gaining practical experience in accounting processes, reconciliations and financial controls as you grow into the position.

Qualifications

• A relevant BCom Accounting/Financial Accounting/Management Accounting or similar finance degree is required.
• Hands-on exposure to bank reconciliations, debtors, creditors, journals, VAT, general ledger accounting, month-end and management accounts is preferred.
• Experience with Sage or a comparable accounting package is valuable, along with strong Excel skills.

Responsibilities

• Handle month-end accounting and reconciliations with growing ownership.
• Support management accounts and reporting schedules.
• Contribute to debtors, creditors and general ledger processes.
• Manage banking, payments and debit-order activities.
• Work on loan and asset finance transactions and settlements.
• Assist with VAT calculations and reconciliations.
• Prepare journals, accruals and month-end adjustments.
• Provide audit support and strengthen financial controls.

Finished your SAIPA or CIMA training contract, or completing it during 2026? Ready to make the move from practice into commerce?

An established commercial business in the Tygerberg area is looking for a Junior Accountant / Accountant to join its in-house finance team.

This is not a role where you’ll simply capture transactions all day.

You’ll get exposure to the actual mechanics of an asset finance business , working across accounting, banking, loan transactions, settlements, reconciliations, VAT, management accounts and financial controls.

WHAT YOU’LL GET EXPOSURE TO

You’ll work closely with an experienced finance team and gradually take ownership of areas including:

• Month-end accounting and reconciliations
• Management accounts support and reporting schedules
• Debtors, creditors and general ledger accounting
• Banking, payments and debit-order processes
• Loan and asset finance transactions
• Settlement calculations and administration
• Reconciliation of financial information across accounting and loan-management systems
• VAT calculations and reconciliations
• Journals, accruals and month-end adjustments
• Cash flow information
• Audit support and financial controls
• Identifying discrepancies and actually investigating why the numbers don’t agree Improving and automating finance processes as you grow into the role

The position has a particularly strong operational accounting focus and requires someone who enjoys getting into the detail, solving reconciling items and understanding how transactions flow through a business.

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR

This opportunity could be ideal if you are:

Completing your SAIPA or CIMA training contract during 2026

OR

Recently completed your SAIPA or CIMA training and looking for your first move into commerce

You should have a relevant BCom Accounting / Financial Accounting / Management Accounting or similar finance degree , together with approximately three years of practical accounting experience.

We’re particularly interested in trainees who have gained genuine hands-on exposure to bank reconciliations, debtors, creditors, journals, VAT, general ledger accounting, month-end and management accounts .

Experience with Sage or a comparable accounting package will be valuable, as will strong Excel skills.

Previous experience in these areas would be advantageous, but the role specification specifically treats this exposure as advantageous rather than essential .
