How will you CONTRIBUTE and GROW?
Safety Specialist is accountable for Occupational, Health, Safety, and Environment Management at Air Liquide. They will assist the HSE Manager and Facility Managers with standards and regulations related to health, safety, and environment.
- Establish and maintain a written HSE Policy, ensuring communication to all personnel along with procedures such as inspections, JHA, audits, work permits, etc., and monitor HSE compliance regulations.
- Assist local management in implementing and monitoring the HSE program and objectives.
- Evaluate HSE non-conformities related to group documents, procedures, standards, or local regulations with facilities management.
- Ensure proper and timely conduct of HSE and internal/external audits, and develop action plans.
- Provide professional support and advice to Operations Management and staff on HSE matters.
- Ensure compliance with South Africa's legal framework on Safety, Health, and Environment, and support subsidiary operations in implementing procedures.
- Conduct or coordinate industrial hygiene monitoring as necessary.
- Coordinate HSE training programs for employees and contractors to ensure they are trained and qualified for safe work.
- Assist and provide expert opinions on safety events analysis (PSSE, NLTA/LTA) and ensure quality in analysis and reporting.
- Assist with completing Safe Work and other Life Saving Permits.
- Provide on-the-floor HSE coaching and recognition.
- Communicate regularly on HSE topics, KPIs, initiatives, and achievements.
- Participate in job hazard analysis, process hazard analysis, management of change, and pre-startup safety reviews.
- Help foster a safety ownership culture and engage employees in HSE management.
- Apply global best practices in safety planning and execution.

Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, or related fields.
- BTech Degree in Chemical/Mechanical Engineering or Safety Management (advantageous).
Experience
- 7+ years supervisory experience in the gas or chemical industry is advantageous.
- Experience in conducting safety audits.
- Deep knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety standards.
- Experience with safety & risk management.
- Maintaining accreditations such as FSSC, SAHPRA, ISO.
