Job description

How will you CONTRIBUTE and GROW?

Safety Specialist is responsible for Occupational, Health, Safety, and Environment Management at Air Liquide. They will support the HSE Manager and Facility Managers in maintaining health, safety, and environmental standards in accordance with country and company regulations.

• Establish and communicate a written HSE Policy, including procedures such as inspections, JHA, audits, work permits, and compliance monitoring.
• Assist management in implementing and monitoring the HSE program and objectives.
• Evaluate HSE non-conformities related to group documents, procedures, standards, or regulations with facilities management.
• Ensure timely and proper conduct of HSE and external/internal audits, and develop action plans.
• Provide support and advice to Operations Management and staff on HSE matters.
• Ensure compliance with South Africa's legal framework on Safety, Health, and Environment, and support subsidiary operations.
• Conduct or coordinate industrial hygiene monitoring as needed.
• Coordinate HSE training for employees and contractors to ensure safety qualifications.
• Assist management with safety event analysis and ensure quality reporting.
• Assist with Safe Work and Life Saving Permits.
• Provide on-the-floor HSE coaching and recognition.
• Communicate regularly on HSE topics, KPIs, initiatives, and achievements.
• Participate in job hazard analysis, process hazard analysis, change management, and safety reviews.
• Promote a safety ownership culture and employee engagement in HSE matters.
• Apply global safety best practices in planning and execution of HSE activities.

Educational Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, or related fields.
• BTech Degree in Chemical/Mechanical Engineering or Safety Management is advantageous.

Experience

• 7+ years supervisory experience in the gas or chemical industry is advantageous.
• Experience in conducting safety audits.
• In-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety standards.
• Experience with safety risks management.
• Maintaining accreditations such as FSSC, SAHPRA, ISO.
