Key Performance Areas
- Develop systems to ensure all employees comply with all relevant legal and safety requirements.
- Develop, implement, and maintain an effective safety, risk, and environmental management program to ensure compliance with local (bylaws and national) legislation such as the OHS, COID, and Environmental Conservation Acts (NEMA).
- Identify safety and specific training needs, organize and coordinate safety training courses, and prepare training materials where appropriate.
- Evaluate incident reports, surveys, and audits to establish root causes and collaborate with Supervisors and Managers to formulate corrective action plans, ensuring follow-up and closure of findings.
- Liaise with on-site contractors to ensure compliance with company safety regulations and standards, including basic safety induction training.
- Provide regular safety and quality reports (e.g., toolbox talks, incident logs, near misses, man-hours, site plans, sustainability reports).
- Adhere to maintenance procedures and processes.
- Provide coaching, support, and feedback to the technical team.
- Identify, analyze, and evaluate potential hazards and risks related to safety and the environment.
- Assist in managing compliance with safety and health regulations among employees, clients, and stakeholders, including internal policies and procedures.
- Implement, enhance, and maintain occupational safety, health, hygiene, and environmental programs in line with legal requirements, ISO standards, and best practices.
- Understand and adhere to the client's permit-to-work system.
- Possess knowledge of HEMP.
- Understand incident investigation processes and procedures.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- Diploma in Safety Management or an equivalent qualification
- Registration with a recognized professional body such as SAIOSH or SACPCMP
- Code B Driver’s License
- At least 2 years of experience in a mining environment
- Experience with Legal Compliance Assessments
- Incident Investigation skills
- SOP Training experience
- HIRA knowledge
- Strata Control expertise
- Fatigue Management knowledge
- Certification in COMSOC 1 & 2
