Our Client in the Construction / Renewable Energy Industry is seeking a Safety Officer.
POSITION INFO :
Safety Officer Responsibilities:
The SHE officer identifies, reviews, and evaluates hazards within the work environment; implements controls and preventative measures; and prevents injuries resulting from environmental factors.
Qualifications, Experience, and Technical Requirements
- Diploma (3 Yr.): National Diploma in Health and Safety or equivalent.
- Registered with SACPCMP as a Health and Safety Officer (Proof of Registration required).
- At least 5 years of experience as a SHE Officer within Construction.
- SAMTRAC, NEBOSH, or equivalent certification.
- Knowledge of the National Environmental Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, National Traffic Act, municipal by-laws, and company policies.
- Understanding of construction processes, equipment, materials, and products.
- Knowledge of ISO 9000, 14000, and OHSAS 18001 standards.
- Driver's license is essential. Candidates should have a renewable energy background with a valid SACPCMP certificate.
Special Knowledge / Skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Proficient in internet searching and analysis.
- Excellent command of English (including spelling, grammar, punctuation); knowledge of Xhosa is an advantage.
- Ability to handle confidential information responsibly.
- Strong planning, organizing, prioritizing, and time management skills.
- Proficient in analyzing various sources of information to provide solutions and reports.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Implement site-specific integrated management systems, including:
- Training on site.
- Ensuring safety resources are in place per project scope.
- Evaluating subcontractor safety plans, ensuring compliance, and signing off.
- Establishing health and safety communication structures.
- Implementing planned task observations.
- Preparing and maintaining health and safety files as per legislation and policies.
- Implementing and communicating site-specific emergency plans.
- Maintain site-specific IMS, identify risks, address non-compliance, and improve the system.
- Ensure compliance with ISO 9000, 14000, and OHSAS 18001 standards.
- Maintain legal compliance and prevent future risks and accidents.
- Ensure safety on-site and meet all legal, organizational, and site-specific requirements.
