Ensure compliance with the legal requirements in respect of health, safety and environment as specified in the Minerals & Regulations and the Mine Health Safety Act.
Assist with conducting baseline risk assessments, and ensuring controls are implemented.
Attend daily management meetings.
Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive safety management system and standard operating procedures in accordance with relevant regulations and industry standards.
Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to identify hazards, assess risks, and recommend corrective actions.
Conduct health and safety meetings and provide guidance and support to supervisors and employees on safety procedures, safe work practices, and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Conduct regular meetings and training sessions to disseminate information, share best practices, and engage employees in SHERQ initiatives.
Investigate large scale incidents, accidents, and near misses, identify root causes, conduct risk analysis, and develop strategies to prevent reoccurrence.
Review team inspection and investigation reports and analyse corrective actions.
Develop and deliver safety training programs to increase safety awareness and promote a proactive safety culture.
Develop and implement health management programs and awareness workshops to address occupational health hazards, including exposure to dust, noise, chemicals, and other potential risks in line with ISO standards.
Facilitate quality training programs to enhance the safety culture, understanding, and implementation of quality standards across the organization.
Coordinate medical surveillance programs and ensure compliance with health monitoring requirements for employees.
Collaborate with healthcare professionals and external stakeholders to address health-related concerns and promote employee wellbeing.
Collaborate with operational teams to identify process improvements, reduce waste, and enhance overall product quality.
Monitor regulatory changes and ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and permits.
Monitor the change management process from a safety perspective and ensure compliance to company standards.
Coordinate emergency drills and test alarms to ensure that emergency preparedness and response is adequate and current.
Manage contractors and ensure their adherence to plant safety regulations.
Finance
Develop SHERQ cost-effective budget in collaboration with General Manager for related services.
Stakeholder Relationships
Provide relevant information to the Heads of department concerning plant / Mine incidents.
Communicate and update General Manager on incident solutions and closure.
Communicate effectively with employees, contractors, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders to ensure clear understanding of SHERQ requirements and expectations.
People
Provide leadership, guidance, and support to the SHERQ team and collaborate with other departments to promote a culture of safety, health, environmental responsibility, and quality excellence.
Ensure adequate response time to incident reports.
Participate in planned activities that are appropriate for own department.
Display and encourage teamwork.
Reporting
Prepare and submit reports to regulatory agencies and senior investigations, and compliance status.
Maintain accurate records and documentation related to safety, health, environmental, and quality management activities.
Participate in external audits and inspections and manage the implementation of corrective actions.
Complete Department Minerals and Resources injury on duty (IOD) forms and report on any incidents.
Minimum Skills and Qualifications
Degree in Safety Management SAMTRAC, ISO45001, ISO14001, ISO9001.
International General certificate (International advantageous).
