Are you a highly skilled Rope Access Manager ready to take the reins of complex industrial projects in Durban and beyond? We are seeking a driven, experienced, and safety-first IRATA Level 3-certified Rope Access Manager to join a forward-thinking team operating in high-risk environments. About the Role

As the Rope Access Manager, you will take full responsibility for overseeing rope access operations on various projects. Your expertise in IRATA regulations, high-angle safety standards, and industrial best practices will be vital in maintaining the integrity and safety of all work at height activities. This position requires a strong leader who can coordinate field teams, manage risk assessments, ensure compliance, and deliver outstanding operational performance across offshore and onshore environments.

This is a key leadership position suited to a candidate with at least 10 years’ hands-on experience in rope access and related works. Offshore knowledge will be considered a strong advantage.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Management

  • Lead and supervise rope access technicians and field teams.

  • Conduct daily safety briefings and toolbox talks.

  • Ensure all technicians are IRATA certified and compliant with project scope.

Operational Oversight

  • Plan, coordinate, and manage rope access activities across multiple sites.

  • Implement efficient job scheduling, team mobilization, and resource allocation.

  • Ensure all rope access methods are safely executed in line with project specifications.

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Enforce strict adherence to IRATA Level 3 standards, occupational safety regulations, and site-specific protocols.

  • Perform detailed risk assessments and Job Safety Analyses (JSA) for all rope access operations.

  • Monitor and evaluate safety performance, reporting near misses and implementing preventive measures.

Training & Competency

  • Mentor junior rope access staff and provide ongoing technical coaching.

  • Review technician logs and ensure continuous certification compliance.

  • Support safety audits, training refreshers, and client prequalification requirements.

Client Liaison & Reporting

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for client interactions during rope access phases.

  • Deliver daily and weekly progress reports, risk documentation, and incident analyses.

  • Build long-term client relationships based on trust, efficiency, and safety-first service delivery.

Minimum Requirements

IRATA Level 3 Certification (Essential)

Minimum of 10 years’ experience in rope access operations and management

Thorough understanding of IRATA legislation and auditing standards

Proven ability to lead high-risk access teams in construction, infrastructure, and offshore projects

Strong risk assessment, reporting, and compliance management skills

Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities

Valid driver’s license – company vehicle provided

Offshore rope access experience – highly advantageous

Fluent in English; other South African languages are an asset
