Job description

Mining company based in Brits is looking for a Risk Officer with mining experience.

Qualifications and experience:
  • Grade 12
  • Computer literacy
  • National diploma in safety management or studying towards a national diploma
  • Risk and Safety Management courses
  • Familiarity with Acts such as MHSA (non-negotiable), Environmental, Industry-specific legislative/statutory/regulatory requirements, Labour Acts, Administrative Acts, etc.
  • Advanced computer skills
  • Extensive experience in IBRA, BLRA, and risk assessments (task-based and continuous)
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in mining or processing environments
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in SHERQ management systems
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in Risk Management and Management of Change systems
  • Valid driver’s license and own transport
  • Good health and a fitness certificate
Duties and responsibilities:
  • Drafting and updating corporate hazard/risk identification and profiling
  • Drafting and updating mine and sectional Baseline Risk Assessments
  • Facilitating risk assessment workshops with relevant stakeholders including HODs, employees, contractors, suppliers, and unions
  • Conducting issue-based risk assessments for new products, services, machinery, equipment, structures, and processes, and updating baseline assessments accordingly
  • Supervising contractors and suppliers to ensure risk assessments are conducted before allowing materials, products, machinery, or services on-site
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, and health and safety standards
  • Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines; high analytical aptitude
  • Strategic thinking, planning, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
