This position is an individual contributor role requiring deep technical expertise in industry or line of business, responsible for risk control assessment, evaluation, and strategic consulting for complex segments or lines of business as determined by management. The role involves working within broad authority on complex risk assessments, managing vendor relationships and national programs, and developing technical tools and services for Risk Control, including authoring articles and supporting standards for risk control and industry.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Perform workplace/work site risk evaluations and strategic consultative risk improvement services, including for national large/complex and/or special accounts.
  2. Provide risk assessment information on complex accounts to support underwriting processes for prospective, new, and renewal accounts, submitting recommendations or business solutions to minimize exposures.
  3. Assess customer risk control needs and develop customized strategies and implementation plans for improvements.
  4. Make recommendations on risk control policy, marketing, and business strategies to support profit and growth objectives.
  5. Manage and develop relationships with internal and external partners and vendors, participate with claims management on CNA accounts.
  6. Represent Risk Control at industry, association, and national conferences, as well as CNA-sponsored events.
  7. Develop and conduct education, training, and presentations.
  8. Coach and mentor Risk Control staff to build technical expertise.
  9. Manage quality reviews and identify opportunities for new risk control products and services.
  10. Conduct agency/broker visits to build relationships and promote CNA’s products and services.
  11. Handle special projects as assigned.

May perform additional duties as assigned.

Reporting Relationship:

Typically Director or above

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Advanced technical expertise in risk control evaluation, insurance principles, and practices.
  • Excellent communication, consulting, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills with the ability to prioritize and solve complex problems.
  • Ability to manage vendor relationships and travel extensively.

Education & Experience:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent; Master’s preferred. Minimum six years of risk control experience, including assessments on complex accounts and conducting quality reviews. Professional designations are preferred.
