Job description

Resident Site Engineer - Newcastle

Responsibilities:

  1. Represent the engineer on site, communicating daily with the Principal Engineer and providing feedback on all site activities.
  2. Read and understand all drawings and documentation issued to the site.
  3. Maintain records or logs of every drawing issued.
  4. Work involves: bulk earthworks, trenches, new concrete, brickwork (new and existing), roofing, demolitions, water and sewer services, stormwater systems, access roads, security walls.
  5. Ensure work complies with issued drawings, adhering strictly to dimensions and levels.
  6. Verify trench excavations, foundations, and founding conditions, liaising with the Geotechnical team as needed.
  7. Sign off on foundations, prepare inspection paperwork, and check reinforcement and blinding prior to concrete pours.
  8. Conduct test cube sampling for concrete, review lab results, witness concrete pours, and sign off on completed work.
  9. Supervise formwork, scaffolding, and demolition activities, ensuring safety compliance.
  10. Verify all dimensions against drawings, ensure work aligns with architectural and engineering plans, and sign off on completed work.
  11. Manage civils works related to water, sanitation, stormwater, and roadways, including testing and obtaining approvals.
  12. Prepare handwritten as-built records based on approved drawings.
  13. Coordinate with Quantity Surveyors to confirm measurements and prepare site instructions as directed.
  14. Manage the Site Instruction Book, record instructions and outcomes, and keep a detailed daily diary with signatures.
  15. Record minutes of all site meetings and maintain comprehensive site logs of tests and results.
  16. Coordinate all site activities with the professional team, attend safety meetings, and record minutes.
  17. Provide regular feedback to the engineer regarding site progress and issues.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Qualified Engineer or Retired Engineer (Civil or Structural).
  • Valid Pr Eng / Pr Tech Eng certification in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • 10+ years of experience, including multistorey building construction involving civil and structural works.
