Job summary

The University is seeking an experienced Librarian with a focus on Research Support in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal. The role supports faculty, researchers and students with literature searching, data management, and scholarly communication.

Responsibilities include delivering training, guiding data management, open access initiatives, and integrating library resources into curricula. A MLIS and at least 5 years in an academic library are required.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) or equivalent.
• 5+ years of progressive experience in an academic library with a focus on research support.
• Experience with scholarly databases, research methodologies, citation tools, and open access.
• Strong data management knowledge and practices.
• Excellent communication, teaching, and interpersonal skills for engagement with diverse users.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialized research support, including literature searching and citation analysis.
• Develop and deliver workshops on research methodologies and library resources.
• Advise on data management, open access publishing, and copyright considerations.
• Collaborate with faculty to integrate resources into programs and curricula.
• Manage and curate collections to support research and teaching in designated subjects.
