Main purpose of the job :
- To provide best practice data collection, clinical assessments, collection of specimens, and care according to protocols, including pre- and post-test HIV counselling.
Location :
- Wits RHI, 22 Esselen Street, Hillbrow, Johannesburg
Key performance areas :
- Inform participants about the study
- Screen potential participants and obtain informed consent according to SOPs
- Administer study questionnaires/interviews
- Draw blood/collect biological specimens, conduct basic analysis, and send samples to laboratory
- Conduct physical examinations
- Provide health education and adherence counselling as needed
- Refer participants to appropriate care services
- Clean and sterilise all used equipment
- Supervise the field team
- Develop and update study-specific job aids
- Collect participant data from medical notes and complete CRFs
- Maintain comprehensive clinical records
- Manage inventory of drugs, samples, materials, and condoms
- Perform sample-related activities such as labelling, storage, and collection
- Compile reports and provide activity feedback
- Quality control of CRFs and study documents
- Safeguard project assets
- Train staff on study protocols and SOPs
- Prepare health facilities and communities for data collection
- Update stakeholders regularly on study progress
- Take ownership and demonstrate self-management
- Ensure quality and productivity standards are met
- Maintain a positive attitude and accept feedback
- Engage in ongoing career development and training
Required minimum education and training :
- Diploma in General Nursing (3 years)
Professional body registration :
- South African Nursing Council (SANC) in General Nursing
Required minimum work experience :
- At least 1 year of nursing experience in STI/HIV research
Desirable additional education, work experience, and personal abilities :
- Advanced Diploma in Midwifery or similar
- Certification in Good Clinical Practice
- Research experience
- Highly organized, systematic, and protocol-compliant
- Respectful, tactful, and confidentiality-conscious
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and administrative skills
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Self-motivated and able to work independently and in teams
- Strong work ethic and self-drive
