Vacancy: Research Group Leader : Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT)

Location: Pretoria

The CSIR seeks a Research Group Leader for DLT within the Emerging Digital Technologies for Fourth Industrial Revolution (EDT4IR) Research Centre, part of the Next Generation Enterprises and Institutions Cluster.

The incumbent will provide strategic and technical leadership, including people management, business development, financial sustainability, and operations management.

Responsibilities
  • Set strategic investment goals and develop RDI strategies.
  • Lead research and engineering teams, fostering a culture of SET excellence.
  • Maintain industry relevance and international standing in cutting-edge research.
  • Develop and execute business plans for growth, impact, and sustainability.
  • Provide technical solutions to client programs.
  • Understand industry needs and align research programs accordingly.
  • Manage staff development and strategic Human Capital Development.
  • Ensure research outputs meet KPIs, including transformation, profit and loss, quality, health, safety, and environment targets.
  • Engage with clients and industry partners to build long-term relationships.
  • Manage projects to ensure IP protection and technology transfer.
  • Lead blockchain and DLT R&D projects, managing multidisciplinary teams.
  • Deliver outcomes related to cryptocurrency analytics, blockchain protocols, and data management.
  • Drive technology transfer and commercialization efforts.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
  • Masters degree in computer science, engineering, information technology, or related field.
  • Minimum of five years' experience in research within an RDI environment, preferably in blockchain, DLT, or cryptocurrency.
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary teams.
