Key Performance Indicators:
- Management and execution of research projects.
- Propose and contribute to strategic investment plans; implement contract research, development, and grant-funded projects (NRF, TIA, government departments, international bodies like Horizon 2020).
- Develop written research proposals based on client needs or new ideas for innovation.
- Conduct scientific research to meet project objectives.
- Compile monthly progress reports.
- Monitor and evaluate project milestones against billing in long-term projects.
- Manage resources including budget, personnel, and equipment.
- Ensure timely completion of projects and tasks.
- Prepare investigation reports.
- Attend scientific workshops and conferences to present research.
- Publish conference papers and journal articles.
- Foster local and international collaborations.
Execute Daily Group Activities:
- Conceptualize research, coordinate outputs, and compile reports.
- Produce high-quality reports, papers, book chapters, and presentations.
- Supervise postgraduate students and staff (MSc and PhD).
- Secure funding for research costs through external (NRF, industry) and internal (Science Vote) sources.
- Enhance process quality and efficiency through stakeholder interaction.
Participate in Proficiency Testing and CRM Production:
- Engage in proficiency testing schemes to ensure quality results.
- Participate in troubleshooting and providing solutions for scientific challenges.
- Assist in CRM production and data compilation.
Maintain SHEQ Procedures:
- Participate in SHEQ duties and meetings.
- Practice Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), maintaining cleanliness and safety standards.
- Adhere to quality, safety, and environmental standards.
- Work systematically following SOPs to ensure accurate assays within deadlines.
Minimum Requirements:
- MSc in Chemistry (PhD preferred).
- At least 3 years of research experience in an RDI environment.
- 5-10 years of laboratory experience in chemistry.
- 5 or more peer-reviewed scientific publications.
- Minimum 3 years in an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory.
- Ability to troubleshoot instruments and integrate new equipment.
- Experience in developing and maintaining quality assurance systems.
- Professional registration (SACNASP or SACI-Corporate Member).
