The HSRC (Human Sciences Research Council) is seeking an Expert Member for its Research Ethics Committee. This part-time position will focus on promoting research ethics and integrity, reviewing proposals, and ensuring compliance with both local and international research guidelines. Ideal candidates will have expertise in biostatistics, epidemiology, or children's law, contributing to impactful research governance in South Africa.
The Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) is a statutory research agency dedicated to informing government policy, evaluating policy implementation, stimulating public debate through research dissemination, fostering research collaboration, and building research capacity in the human sciences.
The Research Impact Division (RID) consists of five units: Impact Assessment and Evaluation, Publishing, External Capacity Development and Internship, Strategic Partnerships and Internationalisation, and Research Ethics. These units work together to ensure that HSRC's research is rigorous, relevant, and transformative, aiming to shape a more inclusive, informed, and just society.
The Research Impact Division supports the impact of HSRC research by aligning it with South Africa’s development priorities and the broader African and global context.
The HSRC’s Research Ethics Committee (REC) seeks to appoint two members with backgrounds in biostatistics, epidemiology, or children’s law. The REC promotes research ethics and integrity, reviews research proposals, and is accredited with the South African National Health Research Ethics Council (NHREC) and has Federal Wide Assurance (FWA) with the US Office of Human Research Protections.
