Summary: The Divisional Executive in the Research Impact Division (RID) within HSRC seeks a qualified Research Director to lead the design and implementation of the impact research strategy, oversee relevant projects, and contribute to peer review standards and publications.

Qualifications and Experience: PhD in statistics, economics, social sciences, or relevant disciplines; 10 years of research experience with scholarly work, mentorship, and supervision; extensive leadership experience including as Principal Investigator; strong publication record, including international publications; proven ability in quantitative and qualitative impact evaluation methodologies; South African by birth; successful fundraising experience and large network building skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Strategic Planning and Leadership: Develop and implement strategy for the Impact and Evaluation unit, monitor KPIs, oversee initiatives, develop policies, and lead a committed team.
  2. Delivery of the HSRC Strategic Plan: Build national and international research partnerships, ensure high-quality research outputs, promote impact culture, and facilitate capacity development.
  3. Financial Acumen: Lead budget planning, ensure financial data accuracy, and manage financial resources effectively.
  4. People Management: Lead and support staff, foster an environment of integrity and ethics, and ensure skills development and retention.
  5. Stakeholder Relationships: Foster relationships within HSRC and with external partners, represent HSRC in forums, and engage stakeholders at high levels.
