Job description

Due to extensive growth, Fusion Consulting Group is looking to recruit a Research Associate based in our Johannesburg office, South Africa.

This role will operate under our public practice brand: Atomic.

Atomic Practice Recruitment is a rapidly expanding specialist recruitment consultancy focused exclusively on public practice.

We collaborate with firms across the UK — from the Big 4 to respected independents — assisting them in finding top-tier talent in audit, tax, outsourcing, and advisory services.

Funded by industry expert Gideon, Atomic is built on deep sector knowledge, high service standards, and genuine partnerships with clients and candidates.

Our mission?

To be the most trusted name in public practice recruitment.

As we grow, we seek a Research Associate to join our delivery team — someone detail-oriented, passionate about careers and people, and eager to develop within the recruitment industry.

Job Summary: This is a research and delivery-focused role, providing essential support on live recruitment assignments.

You will help identify, approach, and assess candidates for roles with base salaries ranging from £30,000 upwards.

You will be part of a close-knit, high-performance team where your work has a direct impact — and where you will be supported to grow into a full Consultant role over time.

Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct detailed candidate searches across platforms like LinkedIn and our internal database.
  2. Support market mapping, headhunting, and talent research initiatives.
  3. Manage inbound applications and update candidate data accurately in our CRM.
  4. Assist with scheduling, interview preparation, and client-facing documentation.
  5. Format and proofread CVs, candidate reports, and presentations.
  6. Maintain research lists and deliver timely administrative support.
  7. Make initial calls to candidates to confirm interest and gather preliminary details.

Person Specification:

We seek someone investigative, organized, and eager to build a career in recruitment.

You enjoy data analysis, thrive in structured environments, and adapt quickly in fast-paced settings.

Ideally, you will have:

  • 1–2 years' experience in recruitment, research, HR, or professional services.
  • Familiarity with sourcing tools (LinkedIn essential).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • A proactive attitude and professional phone manner.
  • Tech literacy — Excel, Word, Outlook; experience with CRMs (Bullhorn or similar) is a plus.
  • A degree or diploma is advantageous but not essential.

What we offer:

  • Competitive basic salary
  • Additional bonus/commission structure
  • 20 days holiday plus Bank Holidays
  • Extra day off for your birthday
  • Excellent training and development opportunities
  • Private medical insurance
  • Group life assurance

At Atomic, you'll work closely with experienced consultants, learn directly from the founder, and be part of a culture that values quality, integrity, and career growth.

This role provides a launchpad to develop foundational expertise and grow into a full recruitment consultant position.
