A leading company in renewable energy is seeking a Structural Engineer based in Cape Town. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting independent inspections, ensuring compliance with safety and performance standards, and collaborating with various project stakeholders. This role requires a strong background in engineering and experience with complex projects, alongside proficiency in digital tools for project evaluation.
The successful candidate will conduct independent inspections and assessments throughout the lifecycle of renewable energy projects — including feasibility, construction, commissioning, and in-service evaluations. The role emphasizes compliance with local regulations and international standards, with a focus on documenting safety, quality, and performance through objective third-party reporting.
Key Responsibilities :
Perform independent and team-based engineering evaluations across various renewable energy technologies and project types.
Inspect and ensure compliance of electrical systems and building infrastructure, with emphasis on fire safety, emergency power, and electrical installations.
Conduct quality control during construction phases, compiling comprehensive reports and technical assessments.
Provide root cause analyses and engineering opinions on construction defects, deviations, and damage claims.
Lead or support acceptance testing and commissioning activities.
Collaborate closely with project stakeholders, including developers, contractors, and regulatory bodies.
Utilize digital tools (e.g., inspection platforms, project planning systems) in daily project tasks and evaluations.
Requirements :
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Civil, Structural, Mechanical, or related)
Registered with ECSA (Engineering Council of South Africa)
Experience in specialist planning or execution of complex renewable energy projects
Demonstrated background in construction, quality inspection, or site management for industrial or residential projects
Proficient in preparing detailed inspection and site reports
Skills & Knowledge :
Expertise in Electrical Safety and Low-, Medium-, and High-Voltage systems
Owner’s engineering experience and on-site construction knowledge
Strong understanding of South African building laws and relevant inspection trades
Excellent English communication and reporting skills
Confident, pragmatic, and service-oriented with strong teamwork and interpersonal abilities
Competence in digital tools, inspection apps, and IT systems
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) :
Certification and inspection accuracy
Timely delivery and fulfilment of project objectives
Internal audit results and report compliance
Additional Information :
Applicants must be based in South Africa and hold South African citizenship or permanent residency
Frequent travel may be required depending on project locations
