Job Description
Key Role:

WSP South Africa seeks an experienced and passionate Renewables Engineer to serve as a technical consultant for utility-scale Solar PV and Wind Energy projects in Southern Africa, with potential support for international projects. A commitment to register as a candidate engineer with ECSA to obtain a PrEng registration within 1-3 years is required; existing registration with ECSA is advantageous.

Up to 50% travel to clients, sites, and manufacturers' premises is expected. The role will also require travel within Africa.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Technical (Approximately 70%): Manage high-quality technical advisory works, project management, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Provide technical input from initial assessment to feasibility studies and project integration. Review project designs and suggest improvements. Prepare and manage technical specifications, tender evaluations, and contract negotiations. Conduct technical reviews and due diligence for solar PV projects, supporting financial close processes. Manage risks and monitor project construction and commissioning. Mentor junior engineers.
  2. Business Development (Approximately 30%): Drive business development by defining sales strategies, targeting markets, and scoping services. Prepare proposals for various client projects and manage existing and new client relationships. Represent WSP professionally in meetings.

Model SHEQ standards, promote a safe working environment, and contribute to risk identification and Zero Harm initiatives.

Qualifications and Experience
  • BSc or BTech Engineering (Electrical or Mechanical), with 3-6 years of experience in Solar PV technology; Wind experience is advantageous.
  • Experience in South African (REIPPP) projects and regional overseas projects preferred.
  • Deep knowledge of solar PV/wind technologies, project development, and delivery lifecycle. Proven advisory and business development experience. Knowledge of various solar PV applications and international project standards.
  • ECSA registration as a Candidate is required; preference for already registered professionals.
Key Competencies and Skills
  • Postgraduate experience in wind and solar industries.
  • Teamwork, communication, technical report writing, project management, and ability to work under pressure. Independent functioning skills are essential.
