Placements24 is helping a leading environmental and engineering consultancy recruit a Senior Water Resources Engineer for a fully remote role across South Africa. You will plan, design and manage water resource projects including water supply, wastewater systems, flood control and hydrological modeling.

You will lead projects, perform hydrological/hydraulic analyses, develop networks, prepare reports and EIAs, manage budgets and timelines, and mentor juniors while working with dispersed teams

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Water Resources Engineering or Civil Engineering (with water specialization).
• Pr Eng registration with ECSA.
• 9+ years of progressive water resources experience with emphasis on PM and design.
• Proficiency in hydrological/hydraulic modeling software: HEC-RAS/HEC-HMS/EPANET/InfoWorks ICM.
• Strong communication and ability to work remotely with dispersed teams.

About the Role

This role will focus on the planning, design, and management of water resource projects across South Africa, including water supply systems, wastewater management, flood control, and hydrological modeling. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of water resource management principles, strong analytical skills, and a proven ability to deliver complex projects autonomously. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the conceptualization, design, and implementation of water resource management projects.
• Conduct hydrological and hydraulic analyses, including flood modeling, drought assessment, and water balance studies.
• Develop and optimize water supply and distribution networks, as well as wastewater collection and treatment systems.
• Prepare comprehensive technical reports, feasibility studies, and environmental impact assessments.
• Manage project budgets, timelines, and stakeholder communications effectively.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including environmental scientists, geologists, and project managers, remotely.
• Ensure compliance with national and provincial water legislation, regulations, and best practices.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and technical staff across various locations.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, government agencies, and other stakeholders.

Requirements

• A Master's degree in Water Resources Engineering, Civil Engineering (with a specialization in water), or a related field.
• Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) registration with ECSA.
• A minimum of 9 years of progressive experience in water resources engineering, with a strong focus on project management and design.
• Demonstrated expertise in hydrological and hydraulic modeling software (e.g., HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, EPANET, InfoWorks ICM).
• In-depth knowledge of water resource planning, infrastructure design, and environmental regulations in South Africa.
• Proven ability to manage projects remotely and effectively communicate with dispersed teams.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a strong ability to convey complex technical information.
• Self-motivated, highly organized, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
• Reliable high-speed internet connection and a suitable home office setup.
