Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Remote Senior Materials Scientist to lead polymer research from a home office. You will design and execute advanced experiments, synthesize novel polymers, and evaluate processing routes with global teams.

You will leverage expertise in polymer chemistry, physics and rheology to deliver actionable insights, publish findings, and mentor junior scientists while working in a remote-first culture with strong collaboration tooling.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Materials Science, Polymer Science, Chemistry, or related field.
• 6+ years post-PhD research experience in polymer science.
• Strong knowledge of polymer chemistry, physics, rheology, and processing.
• Experience with analytical/characterization techniques for polymers.
• Excellent written and verbal communication for remote work.

Responsibilities

• Conduct independent research on novel polymer synthesis, formulation, and modification.
• Characterize material properties using spectroscopy, microscopy, thermal analysis, and mechanical testing.
• Develop and optimize processing methods for new polymeric materials.
• Interpret data and translate findings into actionable insights and recommendations.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams across time zones via digital tools.
• Prepare technical reports, research papers, and patent disclosures.
• Stay current with polymer science literature and trends.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior staff.
