Placements24 in South Africa is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to drive AI/ML initiatives remotely across the country. You will lead end-to-end model development, from data exploration to production deployment, collaborating with a global team.

A strong background in statistical modeling and diverse ML techniques is essential. You will mentor junior data scientists, translate complex business problems into data-driven solutions, and stay ahead of AI research while delivering tangible impact

Qualifications

• Ph.D. or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
• 5+ years of professional experience in Data Science, with a strong focus on Machine Learning.
• Proficiency in Python and relevant libraries such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn, Pandas, and NumPy.
• Solid understanding of various ML algorithms (e.g., regression, classification, clustering, deep learning, NLP).
• Experience with big data technologies (e.g., Spark, Hadoop) and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Strong data manipulation and SQL skills.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities.
• Proven ability to work independently in a remote setting and manage project timelines effectively.
• Exceptional communication and presentation skills for articulating technical concepts.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement machine learning models and algorithms to address complex business challenges.
• Conduct exploratory data analysis to identify patterns, trends, and opportunities for predictive modeling.
• Build and deploy scalable AI/ML solutions in a cloud environment.
• Work with large, complex datasets, performing data cleaning, feature engineering, and transformation.
• Collaborate with software engineers and product managers to integrate ML models into production systems.
• Evaluate and compare different modeling techniques, ensuring the selection of the most effective approaches.
• Stay current with the latest research and advancements in AI, machine learning, and data science.
• Communicate findings and insights clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders through visualizations and reports.
• Mentor junior data scientists and contribute to the team's knowledge sharing.
