Placements24 is seeking a highly skilled Metallurgist to lead advancements in mineral processing at our R&D-ready hub in Centurion, Gauteng. You will design lab-scale and pilot tests, develop hydrometallurgical and pyrometallurgical extraction methods, and collaborate with scientists, engineers, and operations to scale findings.

The ideal candidate brings a PhD/ MSc in Metallurgy or Chemical Engineering with 6+ years of mineral processing experience, and strong data analysis and communication

Competenze

• Master's or Ph.D. in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field.
• Minimum 6 years' experience in mineral processing with extractive metallurgy expertise.
• Proven experience with leaching, solvent extraction, electrowinning, flotation, and smelting; strong thermodynamics & kinetics knowledge.

Mansioni

• Design and conduct laboratory-scale and pilot-plant tests on various ore types to evaluate and optimize mineral processing circuits.
• Develop and refine hydrometallurgical and pyrometallurgical extraction processes for target commodities.
• Analyze process data, interpret results, and prepare detailed technical reports and recommendations.
• Collaborate closely with research scientists, process engineers, and operations teams to scale up successful laboratory findings.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex metallurgical challenges encountered in plant operations.
• Stay abreast of the latest advancements in metallurgical technology and innovative processing techniques.
• Develop and implement quality control procedures for reagents and process streams.
• Ensure all laboratory and pilot-plant activities adhere to strict safety and environmental standards.
• Contribute to the development of process models and simulations to predict plant performance.
• Mentor junior metallurgists and technicians, fostering a culture of technical excellence.
