A leading company in remote management solutions seeks an experienced RMS Functional Design Specialist. Responsibilities include designing functional layers of RMS products, conducting research, defining product strategy, and collaborating with teams. Applicants should have a robust background in RMS systems with at least 6 years of experience and a solid educational foundation in engineering or computer science.
Our client is seeking an experienced RMS Functional Design Specialist to join our team in building next-generation Remote Management Systems (RMS) for industries such as Telecommunications, Utilities, and Energy. RMS solutions - also known as Element Management Systems (EMS), Network Management Systems (NMS), SCADA, Energy Management Systems (EMS), or Building Management Systems (BMS) - are critical for managing distributed infrastructure. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing the functional layers of an RMS, spanning data acquisition, edge computing, data processing – such as Configuration, Fault, Performance and Billing Management, AI-driven analytics, and user-centric interfaces for a variety of operational personas.
You must have a proven track record of designing, developing, or professional use of fully-fledged RMS systems, an in-depth understanding of the underlying architecture (RTUs, telemetry, processing layers, dashboards, and reports), and strong alignment with user needs ranging from field engineers to executive stakeholders.
Key Result Areas:
The RMS Product Specialist will be responsible to:
Conduct in-depth industry, competitor, and customer research to understand how RMS, EMS, SCADA, and BMS systems are used in Telecoms, Utilities, and Energy.
Identify functional requirements for configuration, fault, performance, and billing management based on various user personas.
Define the Product:
Develop the RMS Product Strategy and Roadmap.
Develop a complete functional specification of the RMS system, including workflows, user journeys, telemetry mapping, alarm flows and reporting.
Align features to market demand, and ensure compatibility with existing standards (e.g., M.3400, TM Forum, 3GPP).
Ensure a best-in-class and future-proof product, utilising innovative technologies such as ML and AI.
Build the Product:
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate functional requirements into technical specifications.
Design data models, edge-computing (RTU) integrations, AI-assisted algorithms, and persona-based UI/UX and reporting frameworks.
Prioritise features and requirements based on business value, customer impact, and competitor activity.
Test the Product:
Define validation strategies and work with QA to test against functional specs.
Ensure products meet regulatory and compliance standards specific to RMS/IoT environments.
Launch the Product:
Support go-to-market activities by defining RMS use cases, training materials, and functional demos for internal and customer stakeholders.
Support the Product:
Monitor product performance, uptake, and customer satisfaction post-launch.
Solicit ongoing feedback from customers, addressing issues and feedback promptly.
Develop training and support materials and resources to enable customer success and product utilisation.
Evolve the Product:
Drive continuous innovation in fault detection, predictive analytics, and cross-element integrations (e.g., energy optimisation algorithms).
Continuously gather and analyse customer feedback and market data to identify opportunities for product improvements and new features.
Drive iterative product development to enhance functionality, user experience, and value delivered to customers.
Stay abreast of technological advancements and industry trends, such as AI, IoT, and Edge computing, to incorporate relevant innovations.
Maintain a short, medium, and long-term roadmap.
Domain Expert:
Act as the internal expert on RMS systems, particularly in areas like RTU integration, alarm correlation, telemetry reporting, and BI analytics.
Guide the business and engineering teams through best practices in system design and user interface alignment.
Educational Background:
Formal qualification in Computer Science, Electrical or Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
Certification in System Architecture, Functional Analysis, or SCADA/RMS Technologies or Systems is advantageous.
Relevant BI and AI qualifications will be advantageous.
Knowledge of relevant RMS management standards, frameworks and methodologies (such as ITU, TMF, ITIL, etc.) will be advantageous.
Work Experience:
Minimum of 6 years’ experience in the design, specification, development, or professional use and deployment of RMS, SCADA, EMS, BMS, or equivalent systems.
Background in telecoms, energy, smart infrastructure, or industrial automation domains.
Firsthand experience working with RTUs, telemetry protocols, and AI-powered management systems.
Experience with systems used by field technicians, managers, and C-level executives for configuration, fault, performance, asset, and infrastructure management.
Experience with time-series and NoSQL databases, event processing engines, and data lakes.
Experience with AI-enhanced telemetry analytics, predictive maintenance, and operational automation.
Skills:
Deep understanding of RMS system principles, architecture and RMS functionality.
Experience designing UI dashboards and business intelligence reports.
Familiarity with BI and reporting tools, as well as AI/ML applications in anomaly detection and predictive maintenance.
Strong ability to map operational needs into functional flows and dashboards with a UX-first mindset.
Excellent systems thinking, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to write functional and technical specifications and use case documents.
Effective communication and cross-functional collaboration.
Familiarity with performance tuning and fault/event management workflows.
