Job summary

Placements24 seeks an experienced Lead Geoscientist to join the remote subsurface team. The role focuses on high-level seismic interpretation, geological modeling, and evaluating exploration prospects across basins, guiding drilling opportunities with strategic interpretation and mentoring junior geoscientists.

The successful candidate will work from anywhere, with near Klerksdorp, North West preferences noted, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to de-risk exploration ventures while

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in Geophysics, Geology, or a related Earth Science field.
• Minimum of 10 years in the industry with emphasis on seismic interpretation and geological modeling.
• Proven ability to interpret complex geological settings including structural and stratigraphic traps.
• Expert proficiency in industry-standard seismic interpretation software (Petrel, GeoGraphix, DecisionSpace).
• Strong communication and leadership skills, with remote collaboration experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform advanced seismic data processing and interpretation to identify geological structures and stratigraphic features.
• Build and update 3D geological models incorporating seismic, well, and other geological data.
• Evaluate and rank exploration prospects based on technical and commercial viability.
• Integrate seismic interpretation with well log, core, and production data for comprehensive subsurface understanding.
• Mentor and guide junior geoscientists, fostering their technical development.
• Collaborate with geologists, reservoir engineers, and drilling engineers to de-risk exploration targets.
• Prepare technical presentations and reports for management and joint venture partners.
• Contribute to regional geological studies and play fairway analyses.
• Champion the adoption of new technologies and best practices in seismic interpretation and geological modeling.
