Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a highly skilled Chemical Process Automation Engineer to join a distributed engineering team in a remote-first environment across South Africa. Design, implement, and maintain control systems for chemical processing plants, focusing on safety, efficiency, and reliability.

You will work with DCS/PLC platforms such as DeltaV, Experion, Rockwell, and Siemens, develop APC strategies, create HMI/SCADA graphics, and support projects remotely with a global team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related with automation focus.
• 5+ years designing, implementing, and supporting process automation in chemical/petrochemical industries.
• Experience with DCS/PLC platforms and SCADA/HMI.
• Knowledge of APC/MPC and remote troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and commission DCS/PLC for chemical processes.
• Develop advanced process control to optimize throughput and energy use.
• Create and maintain control logic, HMI/SCADA graphics, alarms.
• Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards for control systems.
• Collaborate remotely with engineers, operations, and project managers.
• Document designs, FDS, and SOPs.
• Stay updated on automation trends in the chemical industry.
