Placements24 is seeking a Cloud Network Engineer for a fully remote role based in South Africa. You will design, implement, and manage cloud network architectures in AWS/Azure, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security across hybrid environments.

Responsibilities include building VPCs/VNet, configuring VPNs, IaC automation with Terraform/Ansible/CloudFormation, and collaborating with dev and ops teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum of 4-6 years of experience in network engineering, with at least 2-3 years focused on cloud networking (AWS, Azure).
• Hands‑on experience with cloud networking services, including VPC/VNet, security groups, NACLs, load balancers, and VPN gateways.
• Proficiency in network automation and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation).
• Strong understanding of core networking concepts: TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, DNS, HTTP/S.
• Knowledge of cloud certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Advanced Networking, Azure Network Engineer Associate) are highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, and manage virtual private clouds (VPCs), subnets, routing, and security groups within AWS and/or Azure.
• Implement and maintain secure network connectivity between on‑premises environments and cloud platforms (e.g., VPN, Direct Connect, ExpressRoute).
• Configure and manage cloud-native networking services, including load balancing, firewalls, and DNS.
• Monitor cloud network performance, availability, and security, identifying and resolving issues proactively.
• Automate network deployments and management tasks using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform or CloudFormation.
• Collaborate with application development and operations teams to ensure seamless integration of network services.
• Develop and enforce network security policies and best practices in the cloud.
• Troubleshoot complex network issues across hybrid cloud environments.
• Stay current with the latest cloud networking technologies and trends.
• Document cloud network architectures, configurations, and procedures thoroughly.
