Placements24 is seeking a talented Remote Automotive Software Engineer (Embedded Systems) to design, implement, and test embedded software for automotive ECUs. You will work in a distributed, remote-first team focused on high performance and safety standards.

Ideal candidates have 4–6 years of embedded experience in automotive, strong C/C++, and RTOS knowledge, plus familiarity with AUTOSAR or similar architectures and CAN/LIN/Ethernet protocols. This role is fully remote within South Africa.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain embedded software for automotive ECUs using C/C++.
• Implement real-time operating systems (RTOS) and device drivers.
• Develop software according to AUTOSAR standards or similar automotive software architectures.
• Perform unit testing, integration testing, and system testing for embedded software components.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including hardware engineers and systems engineers, via virtual communication tools.
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to the continuous improvement of software development processes.
• Troubleshoot and debug software issues identified during testing or by customers.
• Document software designs, implementations, and test results thoroughly.
• Stay current with embedded software development best practices and automotive industry trends.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 4-6 years of professional experience in embedded software development, with a significant portion in the automotive sector.
• Strong proficiency in C and C++ programming languages.
• Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS) like FreeRTOS, QNX, or similar.
• Familiarity with automotive communication protocols (CAN, LIN, Ethernet).
• Understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) and agile methodologies.
