Job summary

Placements24 in South Africa is seeking a Junior Mechanical Engineer for a fully remote internship with a leading automotive components manufacturer. You will assist with design, development, and testing of mechanical components using CAD tools and support senior engineers.

This internship offers mentorship, hands-on exposure to CAD (AutoCAD/SolidWorks), simulations, BOMs, and potential for future full-time opportunities based on performance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering completed within the last 12 months.
• Fundamental mechanical engineering principles understood (Statics, Dynamics, Thermodynamics).
• Proficiency with CAD software and ability to read/produce technical drawings.
• Good written and verbal communication; able to work remotely and independently.

Responsibilities

• Assist senior engineers in design and development of mechanical components for automotive applications using CAD.
• Support creation of technical drawings, specifications, and BOMs.
• Participate in testing and validation of prototypes and existing components, documenting results.
• Conduct basic engineering calculations and simulations to support design decisions.
• Collaborate on problem-solving and design improvement initiatives.
• Learn and apply industry best practices in mechanical design and manufacturing.
• Assist in preparing technical reports and presentations.
• Gain exposure to various manufacturing processes relevant to the automotive industry.
