Job summary

Remote Choice is assisting a UK-headquartered group to appoint a Head of Agentic Operations (AI Workforce Architect) remotely for South Africa. You will design, build, govern, and optimise a digital workforce of AI agents and automated workflows across functions including sales, broking, compliance, finance and HR.

As a hands-on leader, you will drive cost savings, hours removed, and measurable business value while ensuring governance and data protection across jurisdictions.

Qualifications

• At least 5 years building software or automation; includes 2 years building production-ready LLM-based agents/workflows.
• Deep experience with at least one automation platform (Make, n8n, Zapier, or Power Automate).
• Practical experience in prompt design, tool usage (function calling), and evaluating model outputs.
• A portfolio of deployed agents or automations with measurable results.
• Clear written English and ability to explain technical work to non-technical colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Design and build AI agents and automations using Claude and other LLMs via APIs and connectors.
• Develop and maintain prompts, tool definitions, connectors, and scheduled tasks.
• Prototype solutions rapidly and prepare production-ready implementations.
• Maintain the Group Agent Register with owners, data access, schedules and performance measures.
• Conduct weekly audits and retire agents that fail or underperform.
• Ensure human approval gates and least-privilege access for security.
• Report monthly on hours removed, costs avoided, and income supported by agents.
• Train staff to work with AI agents and provide operating procedures.
• Control automation tool costs and document the environment.
• Target KPIs: complete agent register, deploy production agents, demonstrate value.
