Job description

A position has become available within Santam Heavy Haulage for a Relationship Manager, based in Johannesburg.

The role involves understanding premium and profit objectives through broker relationships, focusing on growth and retention via strategic marketing, underwriting, and risk management.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Manage portfolio growth, retention, profitability, and set growth plans.
  2. Lead a team of Service Consultants and Underwriters within a cluster to serve brokers.
  3. Report on performance against targets.
  4. Identify and develop sales opportunities.
  5. Provide broker training.
  6. Ensure understanding of sales targets, products, and compliance among brokers.
  7. Develop strategies for portfolio growth and innovation.
  8. Utilize technology for data and performance management.
  9. Prospect for new brokers and business opportunities.
  10. Coordinate with Underwriting, Claims, and Finance teams.
  11. Maintain quality standards and ensure brokers operate within mandates.
  12. Comply with governance policies.
  13. Build and maximize broker relationships as the primary contact.
  14. Drive business performance in line with strategy.
  15. Align strategies between brokers and the company.
  16. Market Santam Heavy Haulage products effectively.
  17. Stay informed on market conditions and regulations.
  18. Participate in industry functions and continuous learning.
  19. Resolve customer and broker queries and complaints.
  20. Coordinate training on products, processes, and systems.
  21. Provide technical leadership on underwriting within your portfolio.
  22. Participate in retention strategies.
Qualifications and Experience
  • FAIS accreditation required.
  • RE 5 certification.
  • NQF 7 insurance or risk management qualification preferred.
  • At least 5 years of Commercial Insurance experience, with HCV insurance sales and underwriting advantageous.
  • Experience visiting brokers and on-the-road engagement.
  • Thorough knowledge of Heavy Haulage / HCV insurance products.
  • Leadership experience essential.

  • Financial management, accounting, information systems, and marketing skills.
