Job description

International Chemical Manufacturer has a vacancy for a Regulatory and Compliance Specialist in a fast-paced, friendly environment. The role focuses on ensuring compliance with laws and regulations related to the sale of chemical products. A relevant tertiary qualification and a minimum of 5 years of experience are required. The site is a Major Hazard Installation (MHI) under the MHI Regulations 2022 (GNR.2989 of 31 January 2023) of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (Act 85 of 1993). The ideal candidate is highly energetic, self-driven, independent, and motivated, with excellent problem-solving and communication skills, able to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure, maintaining professionalism and ownership to minimize failures. Candidates must possess high integrity and strong self-leadership abilities.

Based in KZN, near Pietermaritzburg.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in regulatory, compliance, or risk specialization, or BSc/Bachelor in Technology (Chemistry/Engineering)
• At least 5 years’ experience as a regulatory compliance specialist or similar
• 5–10 years in a chemical manufacturing plant or related industry
• Strong regulatory and compliance background
• Advanced knowledge of corporate governance and South African regulatory requirements
• Knowledge of product regulations (NSF, FDA, Halaal, Kosher, BfR, REACH, Food Safety, etc.)
• Understanding of relevant legislation and standards (e.g., Occupational Health and Safety Act, ISO standards)
• Knowledge of GHS and related legal requirements
• Experience with information systems generating SDS, labels, and tremcards
• Good knowledge of chemical technologies (Chemistry and Chemical Engineering)

Duties:

• Ensure products meet regulatory requirements during development, manufacturing, and distribution
• Manage and conduct compliance audits
• Manage information systems for regulatory document generation
• Coordinate compliance requirements across organizational units
• Monitor compliance and manage risks
• Develop and implement compliance policies and procedures
• Provide training on regulatory and compliance practices
• Handle incidents and non-conformances
• Stay updated on regulatory changes and impacts
• Communicate with stakeholders
• Manage expenses related to compliance activities
• Support compliance with POPIA legislation
• Initiate continuous improvement initiatives
• Assist in generating SDS, labels, and tremcards
