Job Summary

We seek a strategic, commercially astute leader for the role of Regional Segment Head – Commercial Clients within Absa Relationship Banking. This executive will drive end-to-end commercial strategy across a key region, aiming for sustainable revenue growth and deeper client relationships within the mid-corporate segment.

The role involves leading a team of Relationship Executives and Segment Leads, focusing on growth in lending, transactional banking, working capital, and investment solutions. With full P&L responsibility, it demands exceptional leadership, financial acumen, and stakeholder influence.

The ideal candidate is a bold, purpose-driven leader with proven experience in commercial banking, stakeholder management skills, and strategy execution capabilities. This position significantly influences regional performance and the broader national commercial banking strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Strategic and Commercial Leadership: Design and execute regional strategies aligned with the national Commercial Client value proposition. Identify growth opportunities across lending, deposits, investment solutions, and non-interest revenue. Track and meet financial targets such as revenue, ROE, cost-to-income ratio, and capital efficiency.
  2. Client Engagement and Segment Growth: Build and maintain relationships with strategic commercial clients in industries like Manufacturing, Healthcare, Logistics, Wholesale, and Franchising. Understand client needs to drive product uptake and cross-selling. Collaborate with product teams, digital units, and innovation to develop client-centric solutions.
  3. People Leadership and Culture: Lead, coach, and empower a team of Segment Leads, Relationship Managers, and Executives. Foster a high-performance, inclusive culture focused on excellence, learning, and transformation. Build talent pipelines and manage succession planning.
  4. Risk Management and Governance: Oversee credit risk management in collaboration with Risk teams, ensuring portfolio quality. Monitor operational risks and ensure compliance with regulatory standards. Promote early warning systems and proactive engagement for stressed portfolios.
  5. Stakeholder Engagement and Market Influence: Act as a strategic advisor to internal teams like Risk, Finance, Product, Digital, and Coverage. Represent the region in national forums and industry engagements. Provide market insights to influence product and strategy development.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Business, Commerce, or Management Studies is required. Professional qualifications in related fields are preferred.
