Regional Operations Manager (2IC) required in Cape Town.
Do you have an excellent track record working in the Fresh Food, Retail, or Perishable Goods industry as an Operations Manager? Our client based in Montague Gardens is seeking your operational expertise to join their growing and deadline-driven team.
A key advantage will be your understanding of the fishing industry or seafood product knowledge.
Minimum Requirements:
- Act as second-in-command to the owner, ensuring alignment with business vision, brand standards, compliance, and growth strategy.
- Experience in fresh food, retail, or perishable goods is highly preferred.
- Proficient in stock programs, POS reports, spreadsheets, communication platforms (WhatsApp, Slack, email), and internal systems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong people management skills, caring deeply for staff while being firm, fair, and capable of handling difficult conversations.
- Experience managing multiple store locations or regional retail/food units.
- Ability to execute strategies effectively.
- Trustworthy individual who treats the business as their own.
- Ability to identify and prevent internal losses and inefficiencies.
- Skilled in liaising with store managers, head office staff, and internal teams.
- Problem-solving skills.
- Calm under pressure, with quick resolution skills for stock, staffing, or retailer issues.
- View roadblocks as opportunities for system improvements.
- Bonus: knowledge of the fishing industry or seafood products.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operational Oversight:
- Ensure stores are operational, clean, compliant, and efficient.
- Implement and maintain SOPs across all sites.
- Monitor equipment, stock levels, hygiene, and temperature logs daily.
- Staff Management:
- Oversee store managers and staff, including rostering, performance, and compliance.
- Facilitate training and upskilling.
- Handle HR issues professionally.
- Sales & Profitability:
- Monitor sales reports and compare store performances.
- Ensure proper product display, pricing, promotions, and customer service.
- Stock & Inventory Control:
- Oversee stock receiving and shrinkage.
- Implement inventory control systems.
- Ensure product traceability and integrity.
- Liaison with Retailer Head Office and Store Management:
- Primary contact for operational queries.
- Resolve disputes and operational issues swiftly.
- Uphold brand independence and integrity.
- Compliance & Food Safety:
- Ensure adherence to relevant standards and legislation.
- Conduct or oversee audits.
- Keep teams updated on food safety regulations.
- Business Intelligence & Reporting:
- Create performance reports.
- Present strategies and feedback to the owner.
- Inform the owner of critical developments.
- Expansion & Growth:
- Identify new opportunities.
- Support new location rollouts.
- Design customer engagement initiatives.
