Job description

Regional General Manager (Commercial Equipment) – Mpumalanga.

An opportunity for an experienced Regional General Manager (Commercial Equipment) (Commercial Operations of Capital Equipment) is available for permanent employment based in Mpumalanga & Limpopo regions.

Industry: Capital Equipment (Work at heights / Material Handling).

Salary: TCT R142kpm (Neg + TBC).

Start Date: As soon as possible / Negotiable.

To participate in the creation of the overall Company Strategy and the translation of it into a Regional Strategy and Operating Plan for the Region.
To create organisational capacity, capability and manage the integration of Commercial and Operations activities across the Region.
To drive the growth and profitability of the Region in line with the Commercial and Operational Strategy including the creation of organisational capacity and leadership of the Regional Business unit.
Responsible day to day management of activities within the Regional Hub.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Translate the overall Company Strategy into an effective Regional Business Plan.
  • Understand the internal complexities of the Region and plan for effective operational management by translating the Operating Strategy into a Regional Operating Plan, integrating various interdependent functions, pulling together several interdependent processes or systems and balancing the demands of different priorities and situations to optimise efficiency.
  • Ensure an in-depth understanding across the Region of the Regional Operating Plan, the Specific Area goals, Priorities, and Milestones, as well as the Company’s operational framework of processes, policies, standards and controls.
  • Drive regional growth in support of the Company Strategy through identifying, analysing and pursuing new business opportunities and initiating best practice changes in processes, policies and procedures, as well as the optimisation of current systems and structures.
  • Contribute toward the development of the overall Company Operating Strategy.
  • Lead and manage the effectiveness of operating functions across the Region.
  • Lead the operating functions to ensure the seamless delivery of these disciplines and to determine the priorities and the allocation of limited resources.
  • Drive adherence to company functional framework of processes, policies, standards and controls.
  • Lead and manage the operational execution of the region through a geographical network of facilities.
  • Co-ordinate with facility managers to develop and implement plans for the regional operational facilities.
  • Safeguard and maintain all Regional equipment, vehicles and company assets.
  • Manage and maintain effective customer relations and service standards.
  • Proactively deliver on customer expectations.
  • Proactively identify operational problems, determine impact, patterns and trends, identify best fit alternatives and design best practice solutions.
  • Analyse operations against the Regional goals, priorities, milestones and quality standards, and regularly update the operational dashboard with the required information.
  • Deliver the regions financial and operating KPI’s as well as ensuring effective and timeous delivery of machines and service solutions to customers.
  • Deliver the profitability of the Region as well as the Regional Hub/branch
  • Deliver profitability of the region as a whole, and the Regional Hub/branch by weighing up costs, risks and potential returns on expenditure related to workforce, materials, equipment, infrastructure and technology.
  • Keep within budget constraints for an annual period and balance expenditure with revenue.
  • Identify gaps to deliver monthly costs/sales targets and develop gap closing plans to remedy the situation.
  • Monitor planned vs. actual, and report on profitability
  • Sales Strategy and Relationship Management
  • Oversee the development sales strategies for the region per industry sector and implement in accordance with overall commercial strategy.
  • Actively identify opposition threats and develop and ensure implementation of strategy to neutralize and threats.
  • Develop and ensure implementation of an effective sales pipeline and lead tracking process (demand plan)
  • Implement the national and regional pricing strategy.
  • Provide input into the marketing and business development strategy to support the company’s Commercial Model.
  • Drive new and used fleet sales strategically within the region as part of the Commercial plan.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with identified key and corporate accounts and integrated solutions.
  • Implement an effective sales pipeline and lead tracking process
  • Ensure the CRM is implemented and used effectively by sales teams.
  • Work closely with the business development team to ensure sales development activity is adopted across the regions.
  • Ensure after sales services are meeting the business and client’s needs.
  • Monitor customers service complaints and breakdowns and respond accordingly to minimize incidents.
  • Effective management of resources within the Region and support inter-regional business needs.
  • Manage Regional operations in line with the Regional Operating Plan.
  • Ensure effective management of the regional operations functions as measured by customer SLA’s and CSI metrics
  • Manage asset balancing “quantity” and “availability” in the Region to optimize customer commercial opportunities and other fleet utilization targets.
  • Take accountability for the management of business-related risks within own area – including SHEQ.
  • Collaborate with the Planning Department to ensure demand planning is implemented for the region.
  • Implement and monitor processes to ensure the right machine(s) delivered to or picked up from the right customer(s) at the right place at the right time.
  • Process and procedure adherence and development
  • Drive superior operational excellence through the implementation of best practice operating disciplines.
  • Ensure that damages and insurance claims are followed up and costs recovered to mitigate repairs effectively.
  • Identify process inefficiencies and communicate desired changes to processes to ensure enhanced efficiency for the region.
  • Support effective demand planning initiatives
  • Achieve and maintain ISO 9001 accreditation.
  • Ensure the continuous improvement of processes and procedures for the region – to enhance service delivery.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives
  • Ensure compliance within the region to the National BBBEE strategy as it applies to Procurement,
  • Enterprise Development and Recruitment.
  • Revenue growth, Profitability and Budget Management
  • Responsible for the Development of the operations and commercial budget for the Region and provide input into the overall commercial and operations budget
  • Ensure effective management of the region’s budget, forecasts and goals.
  • Ensure implementation of and adherence to the company Financial Control Policies and Procedures in the region.
  • Authorise transactions aligned to DOA to ensure quick execution of plans and operations.
  • Drive debtors’ control and management.
  • Provide timely, accurate and integrated reports for the region.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the Group Operating teams are up to date and informed of current situation, new trends, challenges, and opportunities both within and external to ensure the competitive edge for the region.
  • Execute and Deliver on the Safety & Environmental standards
  • Ascertain safety and training requirements of the region and ensure they are correctly executed.
  • Responsible for region’s safety performance
  • Ensure all company assets are safe for use according to manufacturer specifications and OSHACT in the region.
  • Ensure people are correctly trained to operate the equipment
  • Drive and be accountable as the designated 16.2 and establish an effective safety culture and take the necessary actions to remedy non-conformance.
  • Leadership and Management role
  • Lead the performance of the Regional management teams.
  • Provide day to day leadership and management that mirrors the Company culture and values to ensure a highly engaged and productive team within personal sphere of influence.
  • Play an ambassadorial role with the various stakeholders and progressively positioning the company as a “top of mind”, value-adding partner.
  • Be pro-active and sharing information and fostering a collaborative approach with all stakeholders.
  • Ensure appropriate succession planning in departmental roles.
  • Create clear goals and performance metrics for all staff members that align with their job functions, required outputs and performance standards

Requirements:

  • Relevant Tertiary Qualification in Business/Sales/Leadership (NQF 6 or 7)
  • Post graduate business qualification (NFQ 8 or 9)
  • Approximate 5 years General Management experience at middle to senior management level
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Sales or Commercial function at a middle to senior management level.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in handling a multi-branch operation
  • Experience in a rental industry with short and long term rentals – preferably in the mining, construction, heavy and light industrial sectors
  • Firsthand experience and a proven track record of successfully growing a region’s revenue, profitability and ROIC.
