Job Summary
Manages, plans, controls, and directs activities of the business development inland division. Formulates and implements overall business development strategy in line with the company's sales strategy.
Responsibilities
- Lead in defining the annual sales budget and exceeding targets in line with the company's strategy, focusing on specific sales verticals and segments within the Inland region.
- Develop and maintain relationships with existing and new customers to give the company a competitive edge.
- Optimize bookings for the company, primarily in the Inland region of South Africa.
- Participate in developing and optimizing bid strategies and sales & marketing strategies.
- Promote the company's image and profile professionally.
- Ensure visibility of the company through presentations at seminars and conferences.
- Continuously improve personal and team knowledge on products and technologies.
- Provide regular feedback to management on business segment progress.
- Lead teams within Business Development, Marketing, and Communications.
- Promote all business lines to clients to enhance the company's footprint and competency.
- Handle tendering for large-scale contracts in municipal and industrial sectors.
- Support the tendering team in preparing and submitting PPP contracts within the Inland region.
Duties
- Formulate the Inland region's strategy aligned with company goals and translate these into employee objectives.
- Provide leadership and ensure commitment to the company's vision and strategy.
- Manage all commercial and contractual matters related to the Inland region.
- Assist in converting leads into contracts and gather information on future projects.
- Develop and maintain professional relationships with clients and partners.
- Travel within the Inland areas as necessary, including overnight stays.
- Entertain clients within reason to promote sales and growth.
- Coordinate plant surveys and data collection for inquiries.
- Guide other departments in promoting products or services.
- Attend relevant meetings and seminars to improve skills and status.
- Present tenders to customers with support from back-office teams.
- Create mutually beneficial relationships with clients.
- Manage reports and activity updates from visits and activities.
- Report activities of similar organizations to management.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Chief Development Officer.
Required Competence And / Or Qualifications :
- A B Degree in Engineering or a Master's in Business Administration, BCom in Sales and Marketing, or equivalent.
- 10-15 years of business development/sales experience in industrial chemicals and energy services/projects.
- Extensive knowledge of B2B sales in utilities (water/waste or energy) for industry, with computer literacy in Google Workspace and cloud tools like Docusign.
- Understanding of contractual issues, business, and commercial skills, with sound financial and business acumen.
- Strong financial skills, including training on P&Ls and project profitability.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and effective communication skills.
- Persuasive, confident, and assertive demeanor.
- Proven ability to build and maintain successful client relationships across Southern Africa.
- Dynamic self-starter with a passion for business development and marketing.
- Self-reliant and persistent.
