Job summary

SARAO invites graduates to join the 2027 Graduate-In-Training Programme in Cape Town and other SARAO sites. The program provides hands-on training across engineering, data science, software development and project management with mentorship and exposure to cutting-edge radio astronomy projects.

Shortlisted candidates undergo online assessments; successful graduates may be placed at SARAO sites for a period of 3 years, with opportunities for further study and career growth.

Qualifications

• South African citizen or eligible to work in SA.
• Completed or final year of studies in listed fields.
• Interest in radio astronomy, engineering, science, tech, or related disciplines.

Responsibilities

• Engage in hands‑on training across disciplines including engineering, data science, software development and project management.
• Participate in SARAO’s projects with mentorship and structured development.
• Attend workshops, seminars and activities to build technical and soft skills.

Education

BSc / BSc Eng / B-Tech / Advanced Diploma Software, Computer Science, Data

B.Eng / BSc Eng Mechanical or Mechatronic

B.Eng / B-Tech Eng Electrical or Electronic

B.Eng Civil Engineering

Honours Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management

Honours Degree in Cybersecurity, Information Security, Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering
