Position Overview :
A quantity surveyor (QS) is responsible for managing all aspects of the contractual and financial side of a project, ensuring that client objectives are met through the delivery of a value-added cost management service. Involved in all phases of a facility’s lifecycle such as feasibility, design, construction, extension, refurbishment, maintenance, and demolition.
Key Responsibilities :
- Prepare cost analysis based on architectural drawings, engineering estimates, materials required, and labour involved.
- Prepare cost plans to enable design teams to produce practical designs for construction projects, liaising with architects, engineers, and subcontractors.
- Prepare tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities.
- Evaluate tenders from contractors and subcontractors and negotiate where appropriate.
- Monitor all commercial information related to the project, controlling all stages within the predetermined budget and expenditure.
- Track project progress, measure and value variations during the contract, and manage interim payments and final accounts.
- Conduct monthly valuations of work in progress and forecast final costs.
- Advise project staff on commercial and contractual matters, including reviewing and drafting correspondence.
- Vet sub-contractor tenders and contracts commercially.
- Certify subcontractor monthly valuations and final accounts.
- Work collaboratively to ensure client requirements are met.
- Communicate regularly with project staff and subcontractors to ensure commercial controls are understood and followed.
- Manage and produce accurate reports, following company procedures and instructions.
- Accurately measure, transfer data, formulate, and calculate project metrics.
- Work efficiently to avoid delays in project progress.
- Provide relevant information to management.
- Assist the Head of Department as required.
Requirements :
- Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying or a Quantity Surveying Diploma from a recognised tertiary institution.
- 1-3 years of experience as a Quantity Surveyor in a commercial or property environment.
- Commercially astute, numerate, risk-averse, and capable of accurate cost forecasting.
- Strong analytical skills with good communication abilities.
- Self-motivated, energetic team player with multi-tasking and adaptable skills.
- Good organizational skills, resource planning, and scheduling abilities.
- Ability to produce summarized and detailed reports on activities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project.
