Job summary

BA Personnel is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to lead commercial and cost control for major infrastructure projects in South Africa. You will manage budgeting, cash-flow, subcontract administration, and final accounts, while mentoring junior QS staff.

Candidates should have a BSc/BTech in Quantity Surveying with 8+ years on large sites; knowledge of NEC/FIDIC/JBCC contracts and renewable/HV experience is highly valued. Willingness to travel to project sites is required.

We're seeking anexperienced Quantity Surveyor, working across renewable energy, substations, transmission lines and HV electrical infrastructure projects. You'll own the commercial and cost side of our projects — from budgeting and cash-flow forecasting to subcontract administration, payment certification and final account close-out — while mentoring the next generation of QS talent. We're looking for a candidatewith a BSc/BTech in Quantity Surveying, 8+ years on major construction sites, solid cost-control experience, and working knowledge of NEC/FIDIC/GCC/JBCC contracts. Renewable energy or HV electrical experience is a strong plus. Duties & Responsibilities

Financial management

• Implement and adhere to all the company financial systems that contribute commercially to the performance of the contracts (allowable, costs, P&G, revenue)
• Report on contract financial performance against targets at Project reviews
• Maximize cashflow through timeous cash collection
• Maximization of contract revenue (Overview of sites to identify and maximize commercial opportunities)

Commercial/ Quantity Surveying/ Contractual issues

• Develop, implement, and adhere to commercial systems, procedures, and policies
• Identify commercial and financial risks and opportunities on the project. Be involved in preparing with the Project Manager mitigations strategies where required
• Execute and monitor all cost control principles and procedures for the project
• Prepare and contribute to all relevant commercial notices and contractual claims in co-ordination with the Project Manager and support from relevant departments
• With Project Manager meet with relevant parties to minimise disputes
• Effective liaison with Employer representative responsible for monthly certification and ensure timely submission, issuance, and payment of the month payment certificate
• Be 100% prepared for project review including all related financial and commercial aspects of the project. Highlight risk and mitigation strategies to senior management

Subordinate management

• Ensure that juniors, graduates and each direct report are evaluated through the Company’s Performance Management System, and that subordinate performance reviews, mentoring, coaching and development plans are completed as required

Execution, Commercial, Finance, HR & Project Controls)

• Constant feedback and reporting on site critical issues

Contract management

• Act independently (with guidance from Project Manager) in dealing with site issues daily
• Understand the Construction Programme/Schedule and assist the Project Manager to use the Programme/Schedule to manage the overall project performance, including subcontract performance
• Be aware of company Policies and procedures in respect of health and safety, security, quality, environment, and training
• Liaise with the Sub-contractors and Consultants – Obtain, provide, and relate all information relevant to your functions for the efficient management of the works

Procurement and contract close-out

• Provide commercial input to procurement plans, bid comparisons, purchase orders and subcontract awards to ensure alignment with the approved budget, scope and upstream contract obligations
• Identify scope gaps, exclusions, interfaces and commercial qualifications before award and track them through execution
• Complete project commercial close-out, including final measurement, final accounts, release of retention and securities, settlement of outstanding claims, and reconciliation of committed and actual costs

Managing Stakeholder relations

Maintain and build strong working relationships with all stakeholders

Project specific

• In conjunction with the Project Manager align key performance areas to the project specific “Responsibility Matrix” to ensure all aspects of project execution are addressed

Desired Experience & Qualification

• B.Sc. Quantity Surveying/ BTech Quantity Surveying

Minimum Work Experience

• 8 years’ experience on general or major construction sites involving the control of several activities
• Renewable / HV Electrical industry beneficial Cost control & commercial experience required
• Valid Code 08 driver’s licence and willingness to travel to project sites as required
• Experience in renewable energy, substations, transmission lines, rail electrification or other HV electrical infrastructure will be advantageous Competence in cost forecasting, cost-to-complete, cash-flow forecasting, monthly commercial reporting and change control
• Experience in subcontract procurement, commercial administration, progress measurement, payment certification and final account close-out
• Working knowledge of NEC, FIDIC, GCC and/or JBCC forms of contract and applicable standard methods of measurement
