Quality Manager (Food Manufacturing) – Johannesburg.
The Quality Manager ensures that all products meet company standards, regulatory requirements, and customer expectations for both retail and food manufacturing environments.
The role oversees quality control (QC/QA), Food Safety programmes, and compliance with the industry regulations (HACCP, FSMA, QMS, GHP, GMP, ISO14001 and other).
Duties and Responsibilities:
Quality Assurance and Compliance:
- Develop, implement, and maintain quality control systems to ensure compliance with HACCP, FSMA, QMS, GHP, GMP and other regulations.
- Conduct internal audits and external audits (e.g., ISO).
- Ensure adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Sanitation Standard Operating
- Procedures (SSOPs), and allergen control programs.
- Monitor and enforce food safety policies to prevent contamination, spoilage, and returns.
Process and Product Quality Control:
- Oversee incoming raw materials, in-process checks, and finished product inspections.
- Analyse product defects, customer complaints, and non-conformances to implement corrective actions (CAPA).
- Work with Production, R&D, and Supply Chain to improve product quality and consistency.
- Maintain product specifications, batch records, and quality documentations.
Team Leadership, Training and Development:
- Supervise QA/QC technicians, inspectors, and sanitation teams.
- Conduct food safety and quality training for employees (e.g., GMP, HACCP, allergen management).
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement (Lean, Six Sigma, Root Cause Analysis)
Retail and Customer Quality Standards:
- Ensure products meet specifications.
- Address customer complaints and implement preventive measures.
- Collaborate with sales and marketing to ensure labelling accuracy (FDA/NLEA, allergen statements)
Data Analysis and Reporting:
- Track quality KPIs (defect rates, shelf-life studies, audit results).
- Prepare quality reports for management and regulatory agencies.
- Use statistical process control (SPC) to identify trends and reduce waste
Minimum Requirements:
- Matric
- A relevant tertiary qualification in Quality Assurance
- 2-3 years’ experience in Food Manufacturing
- 2-3 years’ experience in Managing a team
- Experience in developing, implementing and maintaining a quality control system
- Good leadership skills
- Team player
- Organised, neat and punctual
- Own vehicle and valid drivers’ license
