Job Description

Job Position: Quality Engineer - Automotive Domain

Job Location: Kariega, South Africa

Key Objectives:

  • Manage customer complaints and incidents, focusing on volume and recurrence.
  • Monitor PPM, FPY, and scrap & rework costs within the assigned perimeter.
  • Ensure on-time closure of 8D actions and audit findings.
  • Assess process capability indices (Cp/Cpk) on key characteristics.
  • Support APQP and PPAP processes for engineering changes and new product launches, ensuring timely and first-time-right completion.
  • Maintain audit performance standards (IATF 16949, VDA 6.3, ISO 9001, Layered Process Audit).

Key Tasks:

  • Quality Planning & Industrialisation, including leading or contributing to APQP deliverables such as Control Plans, PFMEA, MSA, and SPC plans.
  • Support and ensure the quality of PPAP submissions and validate measurement systems (MSA: GR&R, Bias, Linearity, Stability).
  • Participate in process capability studies and ensure capability is sustained (Cp/Cpk).
  • Implement and monitor SPC on critical characteristics, reacting to trends and out-of-control situations.
  • Define sampling plans, inspection standards, and escalation rules.
  • Conduct Layered Process and product audits, following up on corrective actions.
  • Lead or support problem-solving routines like 8D and QRQC, involving cross-functional teams.
  • Investigate root causes and deploy corrective and preventive actions, managing internal rejects, scrap, and rework processes.
  • Assess quality risks related to engineering changes and manage deviations with robust exit plans.
  • Support customer audits and visits, prepare quality performance dashboards, and collaborate with Supplier Quality teams.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant standards and drive continuous improvement initiatives like Lean/Kaizen.
  • Maintain solid knowledge of quality standards and statistical tools, and understand mechanical manufacturing processes and GD&T.

Qualifications:

BEng / BSc in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent 4/5 years Higher Education Diploma).
