Job Description

To implement and maintain the quality system in the Geochem Randfontein facility to ensure total compliance with ISO 17025, SGS SA high-level procedures, and SGS Global requirements.

  • Operate to the highest standard of ethics as indicated in SGS integrity programs;
  • Maintain an up-to-date scope of testing and coordinate documentation and standard operating procedures required for laboratory ISO accreditation;
  • Evaluate data in a quality role without reporting opinions and interpretations;
  • Facilitate and monitor the method validation process in the laboratory;
  • Coordinate and administer the improvement system;
  • Build relationships with all technical and professional personnel;
  • Build relationships with suppliers and clients;
  • Assist with the evaluation and root cause analysis of proficiency tests, customer complaints, audit findings, and improvement requests;
  • Provide planned quality-related training and awareness as required;
  • Plan, schedule, and perform quality assessments to ensure effective quality control activities;
  • Facilitate and plan all management reviews;
  • Ensure the integrity of monthly inputs into the QSHE Report;
  • Statistically evaluate data;
  • Develop a document control system in line with SGS high-level system documents and ISO requirements;
  • Provide guidance and direction to laboratory personnel regarding quality control and proper documentation in methodologies and data reporting;
  • Provide feedback to the manager on the status of quality in the laboratory;
  • Work with a safety-conscious attitude, demonstrating good and safe work habits;
  • Travel, shift work, and overtime may be required;
  • Perform other reasonable tasks as assigned by the line manager;
  • Refuse work that may damage the environment and report such situations;
  • Contribute scientific and technical leadership to ensure an effective quality assurance program;
  • Ensure that quality requirements are free from prejudicial interests;
  • Handle SANAS matters related to accreditation and compliance (as per the Nominated Representative SANAS responsibilities);
  • Maintain laboratory accreditation under ISO 17025;
  • Identify non-conformances promptly to achieve customer satisfaction;
  • Cease unsafe equipment use or hazardous work and report to higher authorities;
  • Stop work that may affect service quality and report accordingly;
  • Ensure safety and environmental protection at all times;
  • Provide scientific and technical leadership to ensure the effectiveness of the quality assurance program;
  • Maintain impartiality in quality requirements;
  • Ensure the organization’s compliance with accreditation standards;
  • Identify and address non-conformances timely and objectively.
Qualifications

Education

  • BSc degree or diploma in science;
  • ISO or College Quality Assurance Program Diploma.

Experience

  • 5 years of work experience in a laboratory testing environment;
  • 5 years of ISO system experience (ISO 9000, 17025, or others);
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Office software;
  • Experience in document and report writing;
  • Knowledge of Statistical Quality Control is advantageous;
  • Self-motivated with good verbal and communication skills;
  • Ability to multitask;
