Job summary

SIGNAL HILL PRODUCTS is seeking a Quality Controller to oversee laboratory operations and ensure ISO 17025 compliance. The role focuses on maintaining the QMS, data integrity, and continuous improvement within the beer manufacturing context.

The candidate should have a Chemistry degree and at least 2 years’ lab experience in FMCG, with strong communication and teamwork skills to support internal and external clients and drive quality throughout production.

Qualifications

• Degree in Chemistry or equivalent preferred.
• At least 2 years of lab experience in FMCG is preferred.
• Experience leading continuous improvement and root cause analysis initiatives.
• Good knowledge of beer manufacturing processes and policies.

Responsibilities

• Maintain ISO 17025 compliant QMS and ensure day-to-day policy adherence.
• Provide technical support to Customer Services and external clients.
• Lead safety, 5S, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Verify data integrity and accurate recording in systems.
• Promote quality tools and guidelines and ensure equipment functioning.
• Develop and implement operational tools and guidelines.

Job description

Overall Responsibility

The Quality Controller has overall responsibility for the operation and all functions associated with the Laboratory. The role is accountable for maintaining laboratory compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 and delivering results that meet customer and regulatory requirements.

Focus Area 1: Maintain a Safe, Healthy and Risk-Free Working Environment

• Implement SHE Pillar practices within the department.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards and practices.

Focus Area 2: People Management

• Develop employees through TNA, training and coaching.
• Promote a positive employee relations climate.
• Manage and apply People practices.

Focus Area 3: Ensure Roll-Out of the Manufacturing Excellence Programme

• Implement and support standard meetings and visual management in accordance with the Teamwork & Visual Management Pillar Handbook.
• Ensure 5S practices are implemented within the department.
• Implement the Quality Pillar in accordance with the handbook.
• Participate actively in problem-solving exercises

Focus Area 4: Ensure an Effective Laboratory Function in accordance with SHP Standards

• Promote the highest level of quality and ensure that the QMS forms part of day-to-day operations, with all policies and procedures followed as documented.
• Manage and maintain the accredited Quality Management System in accordance with ISO 17025.
• Provide technical support and direction to Customer Services and external clients.
• Implement required quality systems or changes to existing systems as part of continuous improvement.
• Check and verify that team members are conducting quality checks and analyses and recording information on the appropriate systems.
• Verify that quality systems are functioning effectively and that data integrity and information accuracy are maintained.
• Ensure that laboratory equipment is operating optimally and identify problems or opportunities timeously.
• Develop and implement operational tools and guidelines.

Requirements Of The Role

• BSc Chemistry or equivalent ideal.
• Minimum of 2 years’ relevant laboratory experience, preferably within an FMCG environment.
• Experience leading continuous improvement and root cause analysis initiatives.
• Good all-round knowledge of beer manufacturing processes and policies.

Skills And Competencies

• Proficient in Microsoft Office, with strong attention to detail and record-keeping.
• Ability to work effectively with others.
• Ability to work under pressure.
• Strong organisational, verbal and written communication skills.
