Job description

Global company who specialise in Maritime Cranes and Construction Machines requires a Structural Inspector for the branch in KZN.

Qualifications:

  1. Higher Certificate / NQF5
  2. Formal qualification as a Structural Inspector (e.g., Certified Welding Inspector level 2, NDT – MP, PT, VT level 2 or equivalent).

Experience:

  1. Proven experience in structural / Welding & NDT inspections, particularly in the maritime or mining industry.

You will be reporting to the Team Leader Projects. The Structural Inspector is responsible for conducting full structural inspections of maritime cranes, construction machines, and other heavy machinery in line with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) instructions and guidelines.

This role requires permanent travel to various job sites, ensuring that all structural components meet safety and quality standards. The Structural Inspector will also closely collaborate with the Structural Department in the development of repair procedures and other improvements.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure that all inspections are thorough and comply with OEM guidelines and industry standards.
  2. Work closely with the Structural Department to develop, review, and refine repair procedures.
  3. Complete inspection reports accurately and promptly, detailing findings, corrective actions, and recommended solutions.
  4. Perform full structural inspections on maritime cranes, construction machinery, and related equipment according to OEM specifications and safety guidelines.
  5. Identify potential risks or damage and recommend necessary repairs or replacements.
  6. Collaborate with maintenance and technical teams to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  7. Prepare detailed reports of inspections, noting any findings and actions taken, ensuring all documentation is accurate and submitted on time.
  8. Provide guidance and expertise on structural integrity to the field teams and support in the planning and execution of maintenance procedures.
  9. Conduct thorough assessments of welds, joints, bolts, and other critical structural elements.
  10. Assist in the development of inspection checklists and processes, ensuring they meet up-to-date regulations and guidelines.
  11. Ensure adherence to all safety regulations and report any safety hazards immediately.
  12. Continuously improve inspection processes, recommending enhancements or changes based on industry trends and best practices.
  13. Demonstrate flexibility in responding to urgent or high-priority site needs countrywide and cross-border.
  14. Assist with the preparation of repair proposals where required.
