Reporting To: Alastair Reddy - Team Lead QC, Art Department, SMD Technologies
Role Overview
We are seeking a detail-driven, fast-working QC Print Designer to join our dynamic Art Department. This role is pivotal in maintaining the high-quality output of our packaging and print materials, ensuring they meet our brand, print, and retail standards before going to production.
You’ll need lightning-fast turnaround times, a designer’s eye, and a proofreader’s precision. This role is perfect for someone who thrives on accuracy, consistency, and catching the smallest detail that others might miss.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Control & Output
  • Complete a minimum of 130 QC checks per month across packaging, artwork, and design files.
  • Audit and adjust dielines, legends, spelling, fonts, finishes, colour models (CMYK, overprint), and alignment.
  • Ensure all design elements (logos, codes, barcodes, QR codes) are accurate, consistent, and placed correctly.
  • Flag design risks proactively, e.g. low-quality images, incorrect briefs, missing assets, and report to team lead or traffic.
Design Tasks (Conditional)
  • When QC load is low, support the department by updating style guides, templates, or assisting with internal design tasks.
Team & Admin Collaboration
  • Communicate clearly and efficiently with traffic managers and fellow designers to resolve queries and complete tasks.
  • Keep task statuses up to date on Nucleus (our traffic system), ensuring traffic and management can track progress at a glance.
  • Follow up or request new work proactively when capacity allows.
Final Checks & Compliance
  • Conduct thorough finishing checks before handover, ensuring quality, spelling, alignment, codes and images meet SMD standards.
  • Uphold brand and compliance guidelines across all regional packaging variants.
Requirements
  • 2+ years experience in print or packaging QC/design
  • Expert knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and InDesign (DTP/print setup essential)
  • High-speed turnaround and the ability to manage multiple QC checks per day
  • Exceptional attention to detail, especially spelling, layout, sizing, and technical print elements
  • Knowledge of packaging formats and commercial print standards
  • Ability to follow brand and technical guides, and flag inconsistencies confidently
Perks & Benefits
  • Employee Wellness Programme
  • Onsite Gym Access
  • All the coffee you can drink!
  • Friday Company Lunches
  • Energetic team environment with product launches, and creative projects
