Leita Steel, a leading structural steel fabrication company in Africa, is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented QA/QC Manager to join our team. This role is critical to ensuring the highest quality standards in our fabrication processes, delivering safe, compliant, and superior products to our clients.
To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following requirements:
Experience: Minimum of 5 years’ experience in quality assurance/control within the structural steel fabrication or construction industry. At least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
Knowledge:
Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication processes and industry standards (e.g., AISC, AWS D1.1, SANS 2001-CS1).
Familiarity with South African regulatory requirements, including SABS standards and local jurisdictional codes.
Proficiency in quality management systems (QMS) and ISO 9001:2015 standards.
Skills:
Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Strong communication skills (verbal and written) for reporting and stakeholder coordination.
Proficiency in computer software for documentation and reporting (e.g., MS Office, quality management software).
Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment and lead a team effectively.
As a QA/QC Manager at Leita Steel, you will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing the quality of our structural steel fabrication processes. Daily duties include:
Quality Management System (QMS) Oversight:
Develop, implement, and maintain the company’s QMS to ensure compliance with AISC, AWS, and ISO 9001 standards.
Update and manage quality manuals, procedures, and documentation, ensuring all amendments are controlled and distributed.
Inspection and Testing:
Conduct and oversee inspections at all stages of production, including material receipt, fabrication, and final assembly.
Coordinate and review non-destructive testing (NDT) activities, such as radiographic (RT), ultrasonic (UT), magnetic particle (MT), and dye penetrant (PT) inspections.
Verify compliance of materials and processes with project specifications and industry standards.
Welding Quality Control:
Review and approve welding procedure specifications (WPS) and procedure qualification records (PQR).
Supervise welder qualification testing and ensure compliance with AWS D1.1 and other relevant codes.
Analyze welding defects, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
Audit and Compliance:
Conduct internal quality audits to ensure adherence to project quality plans and contractual requirements.
Coordinate with third-party inspectors and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with South African standards (e.g., SANS, SABS).
Prepare and submit quality reports, including non-conformance reports (NCRs), inspection requests, and test results.
Team Leadership and Training:
Supervise and mentor QA/QC inspectors and coordinators, ensuring consistent application of quality standards.
Develop and deliver training programs for staff to enhance quality awareness and compliance with fabrication processes.
Procurement and Vendor Coordination:
Review purchase orders and supplier quality plans to ensure materials meet project specifications.
Coordinate with vendors and subcontractors to resolve non-conformances and verify material certifications.
Continuous Improvement:
Perform root cause analysis for non-conforming products or processes and issue corrective actions.
Contribute to lessons learned processes to improve quality and efficiency in future projects.
