Job summary

Scriptex, a software engineering firm, is seeking a QA Engineer to ensure releases meet business requirements and quality standards through thorough test planning, execution and defect management across web applications, APIs and integrations.

You will translate complex processes into test coverage, collaborate with developers and stakeholders, and contribute to automation and release readiness in a hybrid Stellenbosch setting.

Qualifications

• Five+ years of software testing experience.
• Qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong knowledge of SDLC, testing lifecycle and Agile delivery.
• Demonstrated experience testing web applications, APIs and integrations.
• Strong SQL skills for validating data.
• Experience with API testing tools such as Postman.
• Experience with test and defect management tools such as Azure DevOps, Jira or equivalent.
• Experience working independently and coordinating testing across multiple stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Review requirements, user stories and acceptance criteria to identify gaps, ambiguities and testing needs.
• Define test approaches based on business impact, technical complexity and risk.
• Create and maintain test scenarios, test cases and test data.
• Perform functional, integration, regression, exploratory and end-to-end testing across web applications, APIs and system integrations.
• Validate data accuracy and consistency using SQL queries.
• Log clear, reproducible defects with supporting evidence, assess their severity and verify fixes.
• Coordinate user acceptance testing and support business users throughout the process.
• Maintain traceability between requirements, tests and defects.
• Report test progress, coverage, outstanding defects and release risks.
• Provide evidence-based recommendations on release readiness.
• Identify opportunities for automation and contribute to automated regression coverage.
